Lesson 3

In the last lesson, we learn how the devil tricked Eve into eating the forbidden fruit (note: some people think of the forbidden fruit as an apple, but the Bible doesn't say what kind of fruit is was, nor does it give any description about it). Because she did this, and because Adam ate the fruit as well, the whole course of the world was completely changed. Those things God created that were so beautiful were going to become ugly. People were going to die now. As the world became more populated, wars broke out among the different groups of people. In fact, we still feel the effects of what Adam and Eve did in the Garden until this day.

God told Adam that he was now going to have to do hard work. Weeds and thorns would be growing and now man would begin the process of dying. God told the woman that childbearing would be very painful and difficult. But to the devil, God said that the snake would now go on his belly and would be cursed above all the other animals. God also said something important that we need to pay attention to. He told the devil that He was going to make the woman and her offspring enemies of the devil. God also said, 'He will bruise your head' meaning one person would come that would give a blow to Satan, the devil. The devil would also 'bruise his heal' meaning that there would be a war between this One who would come and the devil himself. The One who would come would give a blow to the devil's head, but it would cause His heal to be bruised. This happened many years later when God sent His Son Jesus to come to earth, live a perfect live, and die a terrible death. He was treated like a criminal, but He didn't do anything wrong. But in dying, He took the punishment for our sins, that we would have had to take, and He also gave a great blow to the devil and won over him forever by His death.

Today, we see bad things all around us. What happened to the beautiful world God created? It is still here, but it is experiencing the effects of the Fall. The Fall happened when Eve disobeyed God and ate the forbidden fruit. Since that time, people have hated each other. People got sick. Work was very hard.  Plants got diseases and it was harder to grow food. People died. Wars happen. People became more openly sinful. Now it was a sad world to live in, instead of a beautiful world. But God had a plan. In fact, God knew this was going to happen, so He planned something before He even created the world. We will find out for about that in the coming lessons. The next lesson will tell about a drastic event God caused to happen because of how wicked the people became. For a sneak peak, read Genesis, (the first book in the Bible) chapter 6. Study hard and be a diligent reader of Scriptures!
